Prologue

“Some memories don’t fade. They freeze — waiting to be touched again.”

The world was quiet that night.

Snow fell like ash, soft and endless, covering everything that once hurt. The streets were empty, wrapped in moonlight and loneliness.

**Berlin Frost**walked through the silence, her boots sinking into the cold earth. Every sound — the crunch of snow, the hum of a distant wind — echoed like voices from a dream she couldn’t wake up from.

And then she saw it — a small white puppy, curled beside a lifeless body, shivering against the storm.

A fragile heartbeat in a frozen world.

When Berlin lifted it into her arms, something inside her cracked open — a warmth she hadn’t felt in years. But she didn’t know that saving **Sky** would awaken the ghosts she had buried deep within her mind.

At home, the fireplace flickered.

Her **mother**, *Nora*, smiled softly, welcoming her.

But Sky whimpered — staring at the same corner where no one stood.

That night, as the snow whispered secrets against the window, Berlin couldn’t tell what was real anymore — her comfort or her curse, her mother or her memory.

Because sometimes, love can protect you…

and sometimes, it can haunt you for life. .
